SCHOOL MISSION OR CORE OBJECTIVES/VALUES:
CIVA specializes in a pedagogy known as Quantum Learning. Quantum Learning is a brain-based approach that results in amazing achievements for our students. Our teachers are thoroughly trained with pedagogy in education and this method empowers them to orchestrate the most engaging lessons possible. Our students take a seminar course on Quantum Learning that helps them discover their dominant learning modality and many other fascinating study techniques.

Our goal is to ensure each student is thoroughly prepared for collegiate success. We have a junior class and senior class that guides students through the college enrollment process. These are just some of our steps to integrate the pedagogy method in our educational structure.

STUDENT CLUBS/ACTIVITIES: We help students to live up to their academic potential, develop artisanship through the performing arts, music, and visual arts, as well as developing discipline and determination via our athletic programs. We offer unique sports such as ultimate Frisbee, fencing, yoga, volleyball and cross country.

SCIENCES, STEM, ETC.: Colorado Springs charter schools, like CIVA, offer honors classes and the AP program in high schools across the nation (and Canada) for students looking to enhance their educational experience. AP, or Advanced Placement, courses are designed for high school students that have a curriculum at the college level and have the added benefit of offering college credit to the student. Honors courses are also designed to be challenging but do not offer the chance for college credit.

Honors High School Courses

Courses with a challenging curriculum.

AP High School Courses

Courses with a challenging curriculum that also offer the chance for the student to receive college credit.

FITNESS, ATHLETICS & SPORTS: Here at Colorado Spring's CIVA Charter High School, we offer an array of competitive sports for students of all grades. Home of the infamous Ravens, we are proud to suit up or lace up for any sport our school plays. We encourage all of our students to join any type of after school program and receive experience in the team-building world. CIVA is proudly authorized by Colorado Springs District 11 and welcomed as a D11 school.

Aside from the Arts, athletics are also a vital educational component at CIVA Charter High School. Our programs are designed to promote both the physical and social development within our students. This provides exceptional opportunities for leadership, provides strong avenues to serve their school and their community and further develops the interests /talents of our students. Plus, why not let your kids blow off some steam and have some fun with outdoor activities?!

When challenging a student to excel in an advanced placement course or encouraging a student to learn a new sport; the creation of a safe place is imperative to bring out a student’s best work. Participating in both an artistic endeavor and an athletic venture instills learning skills from both sides of a youth’s brain. This aligns perfectly with our Quantum Learning brain-based learning model we practice here at CIVA. Ensuring lifelong habits of learning through an artistic and athletic mind provides endless opportunity for growth in our current and future students.

Sports offered at CIVA include:
Cross Country
Rock Climbing
Ultimate Frisbee
Our staff here at CIVA are always encouraging our students to broaden their horizons and try new things. We highly motivate our students to join an athletic team in addition to their other after school activities. The more you try, the more you learn, the more you grow! All of the above sports teach kids how to work together and combine their intellectual athleticism in order to reach a common goal. CIVA has had many successes with our teams in the past, including local Colorado Springs sports newscast recognition!

If your student is interested in joining any of the above sports teams, please contact our athletics office to receive more information on how to tryout! Our staff can assist in getting you the sport applications and your child will be on their way to playing on one of these fun teams.

PERFORMING ARTS & FINE PARTS: The curriculum from CIVA Charter High School in Colorado Springs places an importance on the fine arts simply because history, art and music have all been instrumental in communicating history, beliefs and cultural ideals. The study of visual arts allows students to understand and appreciate the quality and implications of the visual fine arts across various periods of time with various types of styles. This class structure provides students a foundation upon which to create and critically evaluate photography, art, and video production. There’s a reason why our artistic academic program is so highly regarded by our students.

Here at CIVA, all students are required to take some sort of high school visual arts course. We feel exposing their young minds to such visual brilliance only provides them with a wider spectrum of artistic abilities. They are then able to expand their reach and talents in any art major of their choosing. Athletes cross train, students of the arts cross study. All grades have the opportunity to enroll in basic or advanced visual courses as electives.

The skills of our art instructors and art students have won countless awards in the local Colorado Springs city. You can see just how brilliant of artists our instructors are here at our charter high school in Colorado Springs by reviewing some of their work. Not only do our instructors produce masterpieces, but our local visual arts students have been known to produce equally amazing works of art as well.

Performing arts are a form of art in which student artists use their voices and bodies to convey an elaborate artistic expression. This is a form of art that focuses on physically creative activity, with the help of an encouraging audience. It is different from visual arts in a sense that visual artistry is when artists use paint, canvas or various materials to create physical or static art objects. Performing such artistic expressions is a key course we provide here at our Colorado Springs Charter High School.

Our teachers at CIVA work hard to teach our students not only the foundation of performing arts, but also the artistic freedom and confidence that comes with such a course. The small class sizes at CIVA provide a more focused, one-on-one type of environment for our kids, which also gives each student the leeway to pick their own style and personality from within. Performing arts may include dance, music, guitar, percussion, choir, theatre and musical theatre, comedy improvisation or speech and debate.

The elements within these courses entail much more than just the physical basics. We pride ourselves in teaching our Charter High School students how to do something, where to find their internal motivation for it and evolve as an individual to express their emotions in any way they wish to. Art is in part a freedom to express, creating the right environment to be able to express is crucial for inspiring artistic growth. Students are being taught to become effective artisans, scholars and citizens for their community in such a way that they get to decide who they want to be. We give them the guidelines to reach greatness and inspire them to pursue their highest.

OTHER SCHOOL INFO: Volunteering:
To assist each student in becoming a good citizen, we ask each student to volunteer in the community to help them learn the pleasure and responsibility of giving back to society. Each student is required to do 35 hours of service learning each year in order to graduate.

International Exchange:
Everyone is an international student, some are just more aware of it than others.

CIVA Charter High School has an idealistic goal to foster peace and understanding in our school, community and around the world. Our emphasis on scholarship brings together our local and international students to pursue an intellectual program designed to ensure each student reaches his or her highest potential. We promote a diverse melting pot of students, through numerous high school foreign exchange programs.

Our emphasis on citizenship in our high school abroad program is enhanced when our students clarify the values of their own community and are inquisitive about the values of other cultures. A deeper level of understanding and appreciation of our global village increases the compassion our students feel for one another and increases the stewardship our students’ sense for fostering a more diplomatic world.

A broader cultural experience develops a more innovative and curious approach to artistic expression, which is greatly enhanced by the global perspective of students from all around the world brought to us by our partnerships with high school foreign exchange programs.
